Polyurethane Foam Sheet
The polyurethane foam sheet is a versatile material produced in standard thicknesses that forms the basis of in-pack padding and general protection applications. Thanks to its flexible structure it fits easily into the interior surfaces of boxes and cases, safely wrapping sensitive products against impact and vibration. Available in anthracite, grey and white, it adapts to a wide range of packaging and finishing needs.
Key Properties
- Standard thickness options
- Flexible and lightweight structure
- Easy-to-cut surface
- Impact and vibration damping
- Anthracite, grey and white colors
- General-purpose packaging padding
Overview
Polyurethane foam sheet is the base material wherever sound absorption, flexibility and light weight matter. Its cells are interconnected, so air and sound waves pass into the material — which is what makes it strong in acoustic applications and soft cushioning.
Density and firmness
Two separate measures apply to polyurethane foam and they are often confused: density (kg/m³) describes how much material there is, firmness how much it resists compression. A high-density foam can still be soft. In packaging, density is chosen so the foam carries the product's weight without permanently bottoming out; in seating and bedding, firmness is what decides.
What open-cell means in practice
The open-cell structure cuts both ways. It's superior for sound absorption and breathability, easy to cut, and cheaper than EVA. In exchange it holds moisture and water. Where sea freight, open storage or humid conditions are involved, closed-cell EVA or XPE is the safer choice.
Cutting and production
Blocks are horizontally sliced to the required thickness, then CNC, band knife or steel-rule die cuts the product-specific cavities. Deep-cavity interiors come from thicker blocks. Anthracite, grey and white are standard; other densities and colours are produced to order.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Should I choose polyurethane foam or EVA?
- Polyurethane if sound absorption, soft cushioning and cost lead. EVA if impact absorption, moisture resistance and a clean cut edge lead. For humid conditions or sea freight, use closed-cell EVA or XPE.
- Are density and firmness the same thing?
- No. Density is weight per unit volume (kg/m³); firmness is resistance to compression. A high-density foam can be soft. Packaging is decided by density, comfort products by firmness.
- Can you cut to a specific thickness?
- Yes. Blocks are sliced to the thickness you need, then cavities for your product are cut by CNC or steel-rule die.
