Overview

High-density EVA carries more material per unit volume, making it firmer and giving it a higher load capacity. Because it holds up under heavy parts without bottoming out and keeps its shape through repeated loading, it's the material for structural applications.

Why density matters

A foam's job is to absorb impact over a distance. If density is too low the material crushes completely under the load, no absorbing distance remains, and the impact passes straight into the product — the protection effectively disappears. For heavy parts, the right density matters more than thickness.

Where it's used

Heavy metal part shipments, machinery beds, tool-case cavities opened and closed repeatedly, and load-bearing interleaves are typical. The firm, clean cut edge also finishes well where it's visible.

Does higher density always mean better protection?
No. A foam that's too firm transmits impact into a light product instead of absorbing it. Density should follow the weight of the part — low for light products, high for heavy ones.
Which matters more, density or thickness?
They work together. Density decides whether the foam carries the load; thickness decides the distance over which impact is absorbed. For a heavy part, get density right first, then set thickness by drop height.
