Overview
Coloured and opaque stretch film adds a visual and functional layer to the securing that clear film provides. Black opaque film conceals a pallet's contents entirely; coloured films help tell shipments apart.
Concealment
On pallets carrying high-value goods, keeping the contents out of sight reduces theft risk. Black opaque film is used for this, and it also shields the contents from light.
Colour coding
Using different colours for different customers, lines or despatch days speeds sorting in the warehouse and loading bay. The wrong pallet on the wrong vehicle becomes visible at a glance.
UV and outdoor use
For pallets standing outside, UV-protective films delay sun damage to the contents. Tell us the expected standing time and we'll recommend a film.
Barcode and label readability
Opaque film hides the pallet's contents — and the barcode and shipping label with them. The label therefore has to go on the outside of the film, or a window must be left for it; otherwise the film gets cut at every scan in the warehouse and the integrity of the wrap is lost.
The practical limit on colours
Using many colours doesn't make sorting easier, it makes it more complex. In practice a code limited to three or four colours that everyone knows — one for export, one for domestic, one for returns — actually works on the floor; beyond that, the system stops being followed.
