Machine Stretch Film
Machine stretch film is produced with a balanced stretch profile to run at high speeds on automatic and semi-automatic wrapping machines. Its high stretch ratio wraps more pallets with less film, lowering unit cost. It is ideal for warehouses and production lines with heavy shipment volumes.
Key Properties
- Automatic machine compatible
- High stretch ratio
- Lower unit cost
- High-speed performance
- Balanced stretch profile
- Long-length rolls
Overview
Machine stretch film is high-stretch, long-length film made for automatic and semi-automatic wrapping machines. The machine applies constant high tension, and the film is formulated for it.
What stretch ratio means
A high stretch ratio means wrapping the same load with less film. Machine film is drawn down and tensioned as it's applied, which both lowers material consumption and secures the load more firmly. That ratio cannot be achieved by hand.
The cost calculation
Machine film looks dearer per roll, but cost per pallet is usually lower than hand wrapping. At high volume that difference pays back the machine investment quickly.
Getting the settings right
If machine tension isn't set correctly the advantage disappears: too little and film is wasted, too much and it tears. Tell us your machine type and we'll recommend film specification.
Pre-stretch ratio
The decisive number in machine film is not micron but the pre-stretch ratio the machine applies. 200% pre-stretch means one metre of film becomes three. Machines with high pre-stretch capacity wrap the same pallet with far less film, so film choice should follow the machine's capability.
Wrap recipes
Modern wrappers hold separate programmes per product: how many base-tie turns, how many turns at which height, how many at the top. Defining a recipe per pallet type makes film consumption predictable and ensures every pallet is wrapped identically.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can machine film be used by hand?
- No. Formulated for high stretch, it can't be given the required tension by hand; it won't draw properly and will tear. Use a dedicated hand film.
- Is machine film more expensive?
- Dearer per roll, but its high stretch means less film per pallet — total cost is usually lower than hand wrapping.
- Which micron should I choose?
- Machine type, load weight and pallet configuration decide it. Send your machine make/model and typical load and we'll recommend micron and stretch specification.
